"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves." - Romans 12:9-10

In today's world, it's easy to get caught up in pretending to be something we're not. Social media, peer pressure, and just trying to fit in can make us feel like we have to wear a mask to be accepted. But in Romans 12:9-10, Paul is telling us that love isn't about pretending—it’s about being real. We are called to love people without being fake. Real love means being honest, not trying to impress others, but just being true to who we are. It means showing up for others as our real selves, even when it's messy or imperfect. In a world that often values image over authenticity, this is a reminder to be genuine. It's easy to get swept up in negativity, whether it's toxic relationships, drama, or just focusing on the stuff that's wrong in the world. But here, we're reminded to choose what's good, what uplifts us and others, what's true, and what's worth putting our energy into. That's how we protect our hearts and build a sense of self-worth that isn't based on the world's standards but on the love God has for us. Love isn't just something we say, it's something we do. It's about treating others with respect, and kindness, and making sure they know they matter. The world often teaches us to put ourselves first over everything and no one else matters. But here, we're reminded that true love looks like lifting others up. Whether it's a friend, family member, or even someone we don't know that well. Living this way might not always be easy, but it leads to real growth. We grow in humility when we focus more on serving and loving others. When we put others first, we start to create a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. That's the kind of love that leads to personal growth and deeper connections.

Think about the relationships in your life right now. Are you being real with the people around you? Are you showing love in a way that’s authentic? How can you start to live in a way that puts others first, honors them, and reflects the love God has for you?

God, help me to love people the way You love me—genuinely and without pretending. Help me to reject the negativity around me and choose what’s good and life-giving. Show me how to build authentic relationships where I can support and encourage others. And teach me to grow in humility by putting others first. Amen.
